Chakras play a key part in many energetic healing practices; while many have heard about the chakras before, not as many know what they represent, or how to work with them in order to bring overall peace and wellbeing into their life. The concept of chakras comes from some the earliest spiritual texts on Earth, known as the Vedas. These texts, written in Vedic Sanskrit originate from ancient India, and laid the oldest foundations of Hinduism. The word Chakra means “wheel” or “disk,” and refers to the 7 main energy centers that make up the human body. While there are said to be at least 108 chakras that one can work with, there are 7 main ones that provide the basis to overall wellness, alignment and wellbeing. Each of these 7 chakras resonate at their own frequency and provide a different stream of energy and have a specific purpose in our lives’. Here we will break down the purposes of these various energy centers and provide some tools and techniques to work with in order to support and bring balance to each of your chakras.
The Root chakra is the very first chakra in our energetic system and is the foundation that supports all the other chakras. The Root chakra is located at the base of the spine, and includes the legs, feet, and the male reproductive system. This chakra deals with safety, protection and stability. When this chakra is balanced, one feels grounded, clear and focused in the present moment. When this chakra is unbalanced one can feel unsafe and anxious, or may feel disconnected, inadequate or unloved. Those who struggle with being scattered, unfocused or who have a difficult time letting things go should consider working with their root chakra to bring themselves back into balance.
